Michael Bungay Stanier is an award-winning author, Rhodes Scholar and a Canadian Coach of the Year. He has a new book being released March 10 and a new video (yea!) that will be sent viral in a couple of weeks. Watch for it!
Michael's 8 Irresitable Principles of Fun video has been viewed by over 2 million people, in 145 countries. One of those countries was listed in Wikipedia as being an isolated island with no inhabitants!!!
A definite result of leaving the impossible to the Power that be and just doing the action, period!
I asked Michael last night if he ever imagined that it would be that "big" when he started and he said no, that he knew he wanted it to go viral but he had no idea the scope it would reach. It was just something he really, really wanted to do and he let himself imagine success as big as he could at that time (which was pretty big) and it grew from there.
Last night wasn't about being zany. The Eight Principles are about working in a creative and focused way to do the stuff that matters most.
One keypoint last night was what would you really do if your dream could be achieved with absolutely no barriers, no problems, no restrictions?
We took our small, very realistic dream that we all think that maybe we could achieve and grew it into a super vision, that would have just seemed ridiculous before last night.
Through a series of steps that pushed gently (it was so much fun we didn't realize we were being moved until we had shifted from what we arrived with to what we said goodnight with) to move outside our comfort zones.
We said our small dreams out loud to others (which everyone did), wrote it down, and then watched them grow into thoughts we didn't think we had the courage to think about. Each of us now have 3 accountability partners that we didn't know before last night to stay in touch via emails and phone #s to make sure that the realization of what each of us can do keeps growing and living through actions we're committed to taking.
Everyone got to meet and know others who personal stories and thoughts touched our hearts.
We had many partners throughout the night on many different questions and it was amazing the depth to which each interaction led us to the next dismounting and shattering of "I can't" to "Maybe I will", to "This could be a possibility" to "This can be done" to "I'm going to do this" to "This is how it will be done".
Thank you to my "share your dream partner" for truly touching my heart.
Sometimes being brave is simply living life to the best and the most with what life has given us now; not what we were capable of before. I am in awe of your strength and courage to step outside your comfort zone and to want to live fully today for those you love.
My dream has always been to use INSPIRE-ites! as a vehicle to highlight others. My big dream I shared last night is to have INSPRIRE-ites! events in every community, globally, highlighting the best we all have in our own backyards, being changed by the impact of others and their ability to give the good in themselves so we can grow the good with others.
(I have actions I can take, but oneself is a very small world. We are as strong as the connections we make. If you have ideas, know how and want to be a part of this INSPIRE-ites! vision let's connect.)
Last night there were 60+ people from many different businesses and life starting points that came together to share and learn how to make their tomorrows grow on today's visions. I knew only 3 people at the start of the evening and one of them was me!
I got to meet 59 different people, I didn't know before, that want to connect more with their families, live outside of physical restrictions, change their heart and make different their communities. (And a couple of people, the world! - really big visions!)
62 other people got to experience the same thing.
I am always amazed when goodness comes from believing in a need that's inside of you, facing fear and taking action to bring it out to the world. Allow others to help and add to it to make it a reality. 60+ ideas were shared and voiced and talked about last night. 62 people went home with 3 new phone #s and email addresses they didn't have at the beginning of the evening. Most importantly 62 people left knowing at least 3 new people, sharing their stories with others and having hope and accountable actions to start changing today what yesterday was just a thought, a maybe, an "it would be nice if...
It was truly an amazing evening!
